Cyclonic Wind Regions in Australia

Australia’s wind regions are defined under AS/NZS 1170.2:2021, which informs the structural design actions required for each location. These regions determine the minimum building standards for wind resistance under the NCC.

  • Region A – Normal:
  • Wind speeds up to 162 km/h

  • Region B – Intermediate:
  • Wind speeds up to 205 km/h

  • Region C – Cyclonic:
  • Wind speeds up to 238 km/h

  • Region D – Severe Cyclonic:
  • Wind speeds up to 288 km/h

Transportable buildings installed in Region C or Region D must meet stringent engineering and construction standards to ensure occupant safety and structural durability. These requirements apply to both purchased and hired buildings, and non-compliant units may be rejected by council or expose owners to risk.

  • Each building is developed in consultation with a licensed structural engineer to meet the required wind loadings for its designated region.

  • Site-Specific Footing & Tie-Down Design
  • A structural engineer assesses the building’s location, soil conditions, and orientation to create a compliant footing and tie-down solution. Our team coordinates this process and ensures all documentation is ready for submission.

  • Engineer Certification & Council Documentation
  • Councils require formal engineering certification for all buildings in cyclonic areas, with original signatures and site-specific details. We manage this on your behalf to keep approvals moving smoothly.

  • Installation & Anchoring
  • Once delivered, the building must be anchored exactly as specified by the structural engineer. We help guide this process to make sure the installation is safe, compliant, and liability-free.

Cyclonic Compliance When Hiring Buildings

Hiring a transportable building for use in a cyclonic region still requires full compliance with structural and council regulations. This includes having a qualified structural engineer certify the building, design site-specific footings and tie-downs, and provide all necessary documentation.

At Instant Transportable Offices, our cyclonic-spec hire buildings are engineered to meet Region D requirements. While the cost of structural certification is not included in standard hire agreements, we can coordinate this process on your behalf to ensure full compliance.
