Power, Lighting, and Data Access in Demountable Offices

Electrical, lighting, and data systems are some of the most common questions we field when clients are setting up a demountable office.

And rightly so, as a site office isn’t much use if it can’t power a laptop, connect to a network, or light the space properly for work. That’s why all Instant Transportable Offices are delivered with integrated power, lighting, and data inclusions as standard.

If connectivity and site readiness matter on your project, here’s how we make sure everything is good to go from day one.

What Comes Standard in Our Demountable Offices

Cyclonic-rated portable office building with two windows and central door, designed for remote site use in Western Australia

Every demountable office from Instant Transportable Offices is delivered with a full internal electrical fitout, built and tested prior to dispatch. This ensures your building arrives ready for immediate connection by a licensed electrician on site.

  • General Power Outlets (GPOs): Positioned throughout the space for desks, equipment and appliances.
  • Internal LED Lighting: Surface-mounted or recessed LED battens provide low-energy, high-output lighting.
  • External Light (where applicable): Often installed above the entry for added safety and access after hours.
  • RCD Protection: All circuits are fitted with Residual Current Devices for electrical safety compliance.
  • Hardwired Smoke Alarms: Installed and tested in accordance with NCC requirements.

All wiring is concealed within the wall or ceiling cavities and installed by licensed electricians during factory build. Each unit is tagged and tested before it leaves our yard to ensure compliance and safety.

This standard setup covers what most sites need for immediate usability, but it’s only the beginning if you need customisation.

Energy Efficiency and Compliance

Our demountable offices are wired for efficiency from the start, with systems designed to meet site standards, reduce energy use, and support long-term reliability.

Built-in Features

  • LED Lighting: Every unit is fitted with high-efficiency LED battens to minimise energy draw and reduce ongoing power costs.
  • Structurally Insulated Panels (SIPs): Used in construction to help maintain internal temperatures, cutting down the need for heating or cooling.

Add-Ons for Off-Grid and Low-Impact Sites

  • Solar Integration: Available as a custom inclusion during build or retrofitted later. Suitable for remote locations or sites focused on reducing generator use.
  • Battery-Ready Wiring: We can pre-run conduit and isolator points for solar storage systems, supporting full or partial off-grid setups.

All Systems Meet

  • AS/NZS 3000 Electrical Wiring Rules
  • National Construction Code (NCC) compliance for workplace safety
  • WorkSafe WA guidelines for temporary site buildings
  • ISO certifications (9001, 14001, 45001) across build quality, environmental and safety standards

Every building is tested and tagged before dispatch, ensuring safety, efficiency, and compliance are covered from the start.

Data & Connectivity

For clients who need network access, we can install Cat6 data cabling during the build and terminate it to standard wall plates. This allows for easy setup once the building is on site. We also leave allowance for mounting a router or network switch in a designated area if needed.

Data-Ready Setup (When Quoted)

  • Data Cabling (Cat6): Pre-run during the build and terminated to standard wall plates for easy setup.
  • Network-Ready Ports: Multiple data outlets positioned for desks, meeting spaces or workstations.
  • Router-Ready Zones: Space and access for mounting a modem, router, or network switch.

Optional Upgrades

  • Cat6 Cabling: Run during manufacture with access plates installed
  • Data Points: Located to suit desks or meeting areas
  • Router Mounting Zone: Clear wall space for client-supplied equipment

We don’t supply or install network hardware, but we do ensure the office is ready to accept them. If clients need secure cabinets or racks installed, our team can allow for this during the build.

This approach keeps things flexible while still giving your IT team or contractor a clean, ready-to-use setup.

Customisation Options

Every site is different, which is why our demountable offices can be configured to suit a range of electrical and lighting needs beyond the standard setup.

  • Task Lighting: Additional LED fittings for workstations, drafting benches or inspection zones.
  • External Flood Lighting: Mounted above doors or access points to improve safety and visibility at night.
  • Extra GPOs: Additional power points positioned to suit custom desk layouts or equipment zones.
  • Solar Pre-Wire: Conduit and isolators added during manufacture to allow future solar panel installation.
  • Isolated Sub-Boards: Useful for connecting multiple units to a central power source with individual control.

Clients can also request specific outlet locations, split circuits for machinery, or separation between general and IT power. All work is handled in-house during the build, so your unit arrives ready to connect and use.

Installation & Testing Process (Technical Walkthrough)

Electrical and data fitouts are completed during the build process. This ensures each demountable is delivered as a functional, pre-tested unit ready for immediate connection.

1. Client Requirements

During quoting, we confirm your power needs, preferred outlet positions, lighting setup, and any custom inclusions such as extra lighting or solar pre-wire.

2. In-Factory Electrical Fitout

All wiring, outlets, lighting, smoke alarms, and data cabling are installed during manufacture by licensed electricians. Conduit is run within the wall and ceiling cavities to keep everything neat and protected.

3. Compliance Testing

Every circuit is tested, tagged, and verified to meet:

  • AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules
  • NCC (National Construction Code)
  • Relevant ISO standards

4. Delivery & Setup

The building is delivered to site and positioned by our install team or your contractor. Once placed, a licensed electrician can connect it to mains power or generator supply via the external termination point.

5. Final Connection & Handover

Your site electrician completes the final connection and performs a verification test. We provide documentation of the internal testing completed prior to dispatch, making the handover simple and compliant.

By completing most of the setup in-house, we reduce the need for multiple trades on site and ensure a faster, safer commissioning process.
